"For a good cause, wrongdoing may be virtuous"

I kept this fortune cookie fortune from a long time ago because it's a poignant reminder...
Not everything is black or white.
Not everything is wrong or right.
There're still consequences to pay at the end of the day.
But you still want to sleep well tonight.

I learned one lesson from one of the guys I worked with before he retired.
He always made things difficult for me, and I'd always wonder, what the fuck?
Made me retype my work.
Didn't take any of my shit.
I figured it was because I was a newbie, and he knew it.

Just before he retired, I was the first in our group that he told, I'm retiring.
The reason why I made things difficult for you was because I knew the people you work with. They only deal in shortcuts. You, however, are new. You are still teachable. There will be times for doing things by the book. There will be times when you have to use some shortcuts. I taught you how to do things by the book, so that when you had to use shortcuts, you used them when they were needed, not just because you were lazy.

He had a good point.
