HO-MURAN

so, somehow, i ended up on this japanese-english baseball dictionary while lookin Suraida up.
Suraida means 'slider', apparently.

but what caught me the most was the japanese word for homerun.

"homuran"

Dude! That's cheating!
it should sound more.... japanese.
I mean... homuran....SOUNDS....like homerun...

except... said by like... a sumo. of course Bagwell does the sumo stance when he bats, so... maybe he GRUNTS 'ho-muran!' before he swings...who knows???

oh, and thinking about it?
What's the japanese word for 'batter'? Oh, you'd THINK it'd be yet another cool sounding word. But what is it really?

'batta'

and catcher?

'kyatcha'

and pitcher?

'pitcha', also known as 'toshu'

looks more like what a yankee or sox fan might say...in their own accent.

but still!...

my favorite is the japanese word for coach. "koochi"

heh heh...koochi koochi kooooooOOOoooo...

boru! (ball)
furu kaunto (full count)
The fans cheer out ganbare to the batta.
He adjusts his herumetto, and steps back into the batta bokkusu.
The fans yell out Kattobase! to the batta, while jeering at the pitcha, hyaku mairu, sen ni hyaku doru no sokkyu wa doushita!?

[insert slow motion kung fu action here]

[For those who grew up watching Kung Fu theater on Saturdays after morning cartoons...
the batter mouths something to the pitcher, and the english words take a 1-second delay in actually being spoken, and we hear "ha ha ha ha, i will homuran against you, for you have dishonored my team enough!" the pitcher leans back, hands on hips, and lets out a hearty laugh, again with an awkward 1-2 second delay for the sound to arrive. "try to stop my FISTS of FURY shuriken ball! I will make my koochi proud! hiiiiiiiiiiii-yaaaaah!"

and here's the pitch...supuritto finga fasuto boru....

[For Matrix fans, the pitcher then moves slow motion, releasing the ball in slow motion, and we see trailing lines around and behind the baseball as it moves towards the batter's box.]

[The batter also moves in slow motion, and though he looks like he's going to lean almost parallel to the ground, he doesn't. Instead, he leans a little and takes a swing....and then we go back to regular speed]

he swings! it's going back....back....back back back back,.... HO-MURAN!!!

who cares.
what you need to know is this:

I'd like one beer. "Biiru hitotsu kudasai"
I'd like two beers. "Biiru futatsu kudasai"
Can I buy the keg? "Sono biiru no taru kattemo iidesuka?"

they sell kegs at a japanese baseball game....damn, they're smooth.
