end of the week
last week, around this time, i just remember reading or watching about Katrina and the fact that it just went over Florida and killed about 4 people. That number rose a bit. By Sunday, it was just a matter of time watching and hoping it would not go directly on New Orleans.
I've been through hurricanes before. Either waited them out, or watched them on tv... but as with everyone, i never expected this. seeing it on the news, you wonder how this is the after effect in our own country, as it looks like some other place, just not here.
the families torn apart, the members who did not survive, the kids, the survivors, the sick and elderly. Katrina didn't care who you were. It was addressed to whom it may concern.
it saddens me when they started bringing race into it. i hate that shit. bigotry promotes bigotry. and yes, i agree, we saw a website that showed one set of folks with food, and they got captioned 'found food', and the next picture got captioned 'looting'. that was wrong and messed up, but watching the news tonight, and they're making it an issue... no. everyone's on the same boat. and it's all about survival.
i'm also surprised about the seemingly unpreparedness of FEMA. you just have to ask, why taking so long? it wasn't a surprise, we knew it was a bad storm, why not ready? i'm just glad about the outpour of support and it's all that's being talked about.
and now it's a new week, and it's only getting started. i really do hope for the best for them all.
