2000
2000.
We spent New year's Eve at Disneyworld.
And man, I'm HOPING Minnie was a chic in costume. *lol* Good thing is, my friends who've worked at Disneyworld say it's always played by a girl. Tee hee. ah, a flirt.
2000... I was still working at the Center for Ports and Waterways as an Office Manager for the Colonel, when one day, my old classmates from college just decided to spam a hella lot of email and was taking up my inbox. Normally, I ignore it, but that day in July, I was like... DUDE! Chill the frickin a out. and oddly enough, it stopped. My friend Virginia sent me a reply thanking me for having the only nerve to send out that chillpill email and asked how i was doing. I tild her I was still working at the CPW and also going back to school to get additional courses in Networking and computers. She invited me to a job fair held by Lockheed Martin...she later told me she had invited 12 of us former classmates, and I was the only one who actually went.
So, I tried to apply for a networking position, and had the coursework but no experience. Was going to walk out, but then said, i have nothing to fucking lose... walked to a guy with an Aggie lanyard and flat out verbatim said, Hi, I'm a graduate from Texas A&M university, and I need a job. Can you find me one?
He looks at me, smiles, asks for my resume, and gets me interviewed by a few folks. I was in the final running for a systems engineering job, but they eventually had to hire within the company. Two or so weeks later, he emails me and asks if I had found a job. Although I'd JUST accepted one from an oil firm, I had some time to decline...so I told him what position did they have open, and he said Project Engineer. I thought...hmmm... that'll work. So, I get interviewed, and when I got back to the CPW, the Colonel asked if I was going to take the job. I said yes, and he smiled and imparted some more advice. He got called by the company and asked about me... Normally, you don't know these things, but the man is loud. We all sat in the other offices and we could hear him talking and even talked them into raising my job offer starting salary. We all laughed in the office while listening to him.
So now... almost 5 yrs later...just one month away... still working as a Project Engineer and loving it.
