Hire Me
So yeah, like... last week...like Thursday... we were going to wait and see who won the new contract. Basically, everyone thought Lockheed Martin was a shoe-in. Name brand, right? Quality, right? They've had the contract for 30+ or so years, so I've been told, right? Yeah, well, last thursday, the titanic sank and now a new Contractor was awarded the new contract good for 5 yrs.
Right before the holidays. They always say to let people go on a friday, so they have the weekend to recover. Fine, be that as it may, they chose to let ya know on a Thursday right before the holidays. I can't imagine how the other coworkers are doing and handling this. I'm single, 28, and have availed myself to many options...just a matter of picking out which one. I'd rather stay on and keep working as a Project Engineer. But what about those who have a family, let alone kids? What about those who are a husband and wife team with the same company? Those who've been with the company for many years and on the brink of retirement...
We're starting to scramble and figure out what's going on. I guess the shock is still settling with the upper management. Of course, they're the ones who'll have to look elsewhere for jobs. I submitted my application to the new company today. Deadline was set for next week, but Lord knows, if I procrastinate, I will lose my mind.
The good news is, the new Contract says they have to hire a large percentage of the current workforce, so it's just a matter of changing badges. Lockheed today, some other company tomorrow. I don't know how seniority will transfer. I doubt it will, but skimming through the notes, the benefits will be as good or better.
As it is, here's a little prayer that we have jobs at the turn of the next year.
